In June 2013, Calgary experienced one of the largest floods in our modern history. The City’s initial response was focused on citizen safety and meeting citizens’ immediate needs. Within days, work was underway to restore core services and rebuilding critical infrastructure so residents could return home, businesses could resume and City operations could be restored. The official transition from emergency response to flood recovery began when the State of Local Emergency was lifted July 4, 2013. A Recovery Operations Centre (ROC) was officially established to help The City transition from immediate relief to long-term community restoration, rehabilitation and resiliency.
