In June 2013 I started working as part of the facilities/maintence crew at Gippstafe (later would become Federation Training). Never have I enjoyed a work place and been treated as well as I was when I worked there. Everybody was friendly, almost everyone stopped for a chat and there was just no backstabbing, 2 faced people being as nice as pie to your face and talking about you like shit when your back was turned and none of bosses playing favourites with certain workers, which is more than what can be said for other places Ive worked at. I have no doubt working in such a pleasant environment with no hostility was a major factor in overcoming some of the emotional hurdles Ive struggled with like depression and anxiety, hurdles that were almost driving me to breaking point before I started working for the Tafe. I had one of the most genuine, down to earth and compassionate bosses in Reg Sporle. Despite the fact I was only there on a casual basis, if I wanted a day or a week off to go to a funeral, a V8 Supercars event or some other special occasion, he was always said go for your life I really could not have asked for much more and after some of the hell holes Ive worked at, I never took for granted the fact I had struck gold by finding the perfect job so to speak. The only downside to being casual was the fact the job security just wasnt there and I never knew when the job would end. As it turned out a couple of months back, due to budget cuts and government funding coming to a stop, the company had to let a lot of people go. Being a casual, I knew I was a shot duck the second word of this got around. Reg tried everything he could to keep me onboard but ultimately it was not his decision to make in the end and as of today Ill no longer be working at Federation training. What I find most touching of all is the fact that I always had nothing but positive compliments from Reg and it made getting up in the morning and showing up for work seem worth it. Reg knows Im a ford enthusiast and a big fan of Dick Johnson, so he went out of his way and bought this DVD 3 of Dicks best as an Xmas gift as well as a really humbling message in the card he wrote for me. Its amazing how a simple gesture can go such a long way and I really appreciate what Reg and everyone at Federation training has done for me over the last 18 months.
