In June of 2014, I was visiting the city of Manila; part of my agenda was to photograph people in the streets. I didnt know my way around, and I was concerned for my safety on the city streets. I thought about what I would need to get myself out there, and doing what I wanted to do. Online I found information about travel guides, and determined that this is what I needed. And after reading his biography, it seemed that JB Quemado might be just who I was looking for. Hes experienced and hes street-smart. I met with him, explaining my needs. I wanted a guide to point out the most interesting people-areas to shoot; and someone who could spot trouble before it might have a chance to happen. JB didnt disappoint. Over six days he informed me about and led to me through: the street markets of Quiapo District; the oldest Chinatown in the world; the huge Farmers Market Cubao (Quezon City); the beautiful and historic Rizal Park; the Chinese Cemetary; and Milas Lechon Restaurant. He also introduced me to Barbaras Restaurant - a wonderful dining experience with lively Filipino entertainment. None of this would have been the same experience without him; the photographic experiences were wonderful. Over six days he helped me, and I feel Ive gained a friend. Id highly recommend JB Quemado to anyone needing a friendly, knowledgeable guide for the Philippines.
