In Kant’s subjective idealism through the experience of error, subjects realize they’ve inherited incompatible commitments and must relinquish one or more offending beliefs to fulfil their critical, ampliative, and justificatory task responsibilities. In Hegel’s absolute idealism objects that are conceptually determinate for us themselves stand in normatively instituted relations of material incompatibility and material consequence, and obey laws analogously to Kantian subjects but independently of them. The rule following of Kantian subjects is obligatory in the deontological sense, so subjects are obliged to repel incompatible commitments but may fail to do so. The law abidingness of Hegelian concepts is necessary in that it repels incompatible properties in the alethic modal sense, so objects that are conceptually articulated cannot but themselves be in conceptual shape. This analogy between the normatively instituted alethic modal and deontic fine structure of determinate concepts and their corresponding objects is a relocatable theoretic fragment which Hegel puts to diverse uses at various places in his philosophical system. It constitutes a relocatable theoretical fragment in the precise sense that Hegel thinks it perfectly models the life of the concept apart from how it appears to us in diverse practical and theoretical contexts. It generically takes the form of three considerations, capable of serving as methodological starting points. Namely: the treatment of judgeables as actions which commit the judging subject to normative assessments as to the correctness of what’s done in judging; the treatment of judgeables as conceptually determinate only when they stand in relations of material incompatibility and material consequence with other concepts associated in the judgement; and, the treatment of discursively inarticulate judgeables as intelligible in the context of normative pragmatic statuses articulated by other determinate concepts. -Deonticscorekeeper, wp.me/p437G6-3T
