In Malawi, the government is recommending that infants should be tested as early as 6 weeks after birth. From this, it is easier for them to see how many children are actually infected at birth and this early in life. According to this article, of 1214 HIV exposed infants, 71.6% showed up to be tested after 6 weeks of birth and of that 71.6%, 14.5% tested positive for HIV/AIDS. Knowing these statistics will help doctors as well as mothers in the treatment of their infants. #jsimmons
