† In Memory - DEC 13: ***1961 – Grandma Moses, American painter (b. 1860) Anna Mary Robertson Moses (September 7, 1860 – December 13, 1961), better known by her nickname of Grandma Moses, was a renowned American folk artist. Having begun painting in earnest at the age of 78, she is often cited as an example of an individual successfully beginning a career in the arts at an advanced age. Her works have been shown and sold in the United States and abroad and have been marketed on greeting cards and other merchandise. Moses paintings are among the collections of many museums. The Sugaring Off was sold for US$1.2 million in 2006. Grandma Moses died on December 13, 1961 at 101 years of age in Hoosick Falls, New York at the Health Center. O:) ***1981 – Pigmeat Markham, American actor, singer, and dancer (b. 1904) Dewey Pigmeat Markham (April 18, 1904 – December 13, 1981)[1] was an African American entertainer.[2] Though best known as a comedian, Markham was also a singer, dancer, and actor. His nickname came from a stage routine, in which he declared himself to be Sweet Poppa Pigmeat. He was sometimes credited in films as David Pigmeat Markham. Markham died of a stroke at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx at the age of 77. O:) https://youtube/watch?v=1DdEC0_7aZI ***2002 – Zal Yanovsky, Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist (The Lovin Spoonful) (b. 1944) Zalman Zal Yanovsky (December 19, 1944 – December 13, 2002) was a Canadian rock musician. Born in Toronto, he was the son of political cartoonist Avrom Yanovsky. He played lead guitar and sang for the Lovin Spoonful, a rock band which he founded with John Sebastian in 1964. According to Sebastian, He could play like Elmore James, he could play like Floyd Cramer, he could play like Chuck Berry. He could play like all these people, yet he still had his own overpowering personality. Out of this we could, I thought, craft something with real flexibility. Yanovsky died on December 13, 2002 in Kingston, Ontario, Canada from a heart attack. O:)
