In Michigan, our communities rely on the emergency services provided by local volunteer firefighters and first responders. Many of these departments are already struggling with shrinking budgets, making it difficult to secure the funding needed for safety equipment, training and recruitment. Requiring them to comply with Obamacare’s employer mandate will have a significant impact on their operating budgets. Today, the House passed legislation that provides them with a permanent exemption from the costly mandate, helping to protect what limited resources they have. Our volunteer firefighters put their safety on the line for ours, and we must do everything we can to ensure they have the resources they need to safety do their job.
