In Minnesota, the New Year not only means fresh starts with resolutions, but also new laws taking effect. Female veterans will have the opportunity to be acknowledged on their vehicles in a way similar to veterans of various wars and conflicts or those who were awarded medals of distinction, such as the Silver Star, with a new law. Rep. Jerry Newton, DFL-Coon Rapids, and Sen. Alice Johnson, DFL-Spring Lake Park, sponsored the legislation that will create a license plate to commemorate women veterans. As with other specialized plates, the user would pay a $10 fee to acquire the plates that would bear the inscription, “WOMAN VETERAN.”
