In Morocco, the organisation for migrant workers (Odt Immigrés) campaigns for stopping mass expulsions of irregular migrants sub-Saharan Africa to the Algerian border and for enabling these migrants to extend their legal stay without having to leave the country. Their calls for improvement have not received much attention from the government. Recently it has become clear that an increasing number of Europeans live in Morocco as irregular migrants. However, rather than treating them on a par with the migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, the Moroccan government has asked them to take steps to regularise their stay. Odt Immigrés makes some pertinent points about this differential treatment of migrants!
