In New Jersey, some fisherman may still be concerned about using a bycatch reduction device, also known as a BRD or diamondback terrapin excluder device, but we can see in this video that crabs are still able to enter the crab pot very easily with the device on. Under NJ regulations all commercial crab pots set in any body of water less than 150 feet wide from shoreline to shoreline at mean low water or in any man-made lagoon shall include terrapin excluder devices attached to the inside of all pot entrance funnels. This also applies to any recreational users that utilize commercial style crab pots.
