In Regards to the violence in the wake of the Brown shooting, - TopicsExpress

In Regards to the violence in the wake of the Brown shooting, first of all, STOP IT! Stop making things worse than they already are. If you want people to respect your opinions, stop promoting them with violence! Killing your neighbors, robbing stores, breaking windows, etc. does not show a community coming together. All it shows are thugs taking advantage of a bad situation, and justifying the use of extreme force to stop it. Please remember that in this country, according to our own justice system, every single person is INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY BY A JURY OF HIS/HER PEERS. Not by media and public outrage. So while I understand the need to blame, it does not represent what we have determined to be fair and just. We have a justice system so that we do not succumb to vigilante justice. We did away with that a very long time ago on our way to becoming civilized. Being angry is understandable, but calling for more violence is not the answer. The people of this town have not done a thing to show support for the system, nor are they giving it a chance to work. It takes time to do it right. We do not base a persons guilt or innocence on the media. They are paid to get ratings and the more they sensationalize this, the higher the ratings go. We need to take a wait and see attitude. Let this play out the way the law intended it to. If we become vigilantes we are no better than the cop everyone is blaming. There must be solid proof before a judgement and a sentence. And we need to stop making this about race. Its not. Its about attacking an officer in the line of duty, about perceived threats, and about the fact that not a single one of us was there in that cops shoes at the time. Stop adding to the problem by escalating the call for violence. It is not our job to kill unjustly. Its our job to prevent more violence by following the law in the way it is intended. First investigate, then determine what if any crime was committed, and only then do we arrest and prosecute the person who is on trial. We do not convict without evidence and we do not punish with out a verdict. and we do not assume the verdict without a fair trial. That is our system and we should be supporting it, not undermining it.
