In Romans 3 where Protestants find their misinterpretation of imputed righteousness created by Luther, Paul is talking to people who were trying to take over the church who were baptized Jews trying to force mosaic law on Gentile converts. The same people who Jude said were deriding magesty and going the way of Core and falling into the error of Ballam. If you were a Jew who studied the psalms you would understand what Paul was saying. He was not saying there are none who are righteous. The key to understanding these verses is the words Paul uses before hand. “IT IS WRITTEN”. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:17 And the way of peace have they not known:18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.20 Therefore by the deeds of the law ( Sabbaths and new moons, sacrificing bulls and goats circumcision) there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. (The Israelites were told by God to sacrifice what they previously worshipped in sin. Golden calf….) Romans 3 IT IS WRITTEN. Here is where it is written. The Lord hath looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there be any that understand and seek God.3They are all gone aside, they are become unprofitable together: there is none that doth good, no not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre: with their tongues they acted deceitfully; the poison of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and unhappiness in their ways: and the way of peace they have not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.4Shall not all they know that work iniquity, who devour my people as they eat bread ?5They have not called upon the Lord: there have they trembled for fear, where there was no fear.6For THE LORD IS IN THE JUST GENERATION: you have confounded the counsel of the poor man, but the Lord is his hope.7Who shall give out of Sion the salvation of Israel? when the Lord shall have turned away the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice and Israel shall be glad. Psalms 14 22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. Hebrews 12 (At every Catholic Mass)
