In Search of Utopia: In October 2014, a group of members and friends of the Association for the Study of Australian Literature (ASAL) will set out in the footsteps of the New Australia colonists who settled in Paraguay in 1893, led by the novelist and activist, William Lane. We aim to discover something of the circumstances of the original colonists and to consider their ideas and creative work in the context of South America. We will also learn about the literary culture of the South America, visiting universities and the homes of the poet Pablo Neruda in Chile before travelling across the Andes to Argentina and down to Buenos Aires then heading north to Paraguay and across to spectacular Iguazu Falls. There are still places left on this tour. If you are interested please email Susan Lever susan.plever@bigpond for a full itinerary.
