In Sudan during the 1970s, a Japanese woman became in severe pain, clutching her stomach and screaming for assistance. She was not a normal woman, she was the wife of the Japanese ambassador to Sudan and the daughter of the emperor. Her husband immediately sought assistance from the state department and was directed to Bahri Hospital, a hospital which upon his arrival reeked due to filth and lack of sanitation! The ambassador immediately made the decision that she would not be treated there and requested for the doctor to simply give his wife what will dull her pain until he could get her to a hospital outside of Sudan. The doctor, Zaky AlDeen Ahmed Hussein, responded coolly to the man that his wife only had a timespan of two hours; it was either surgery or death. The ambassador had no recourse but to ask his wife, to which she approved the undertaking of the surgery there! Dr. Zaki Al-Deen began the operation, and the anguished husband waited for the news of the death of his wife. An hour passes, a day passes, a few days later his wife emerged from the hospital walking. Upon her release he whisked her away to Japan to the best of hospitals, she was the emperors daughter after all. The collective of doctors summoned the ambassador asking him where the surgery had taken place and who performed it to which he responded, In a country called Sudan with Dr. Zaki AlDeen...whats wrong? They said, This doctor is a miracle worker, and he must be invited here. The invitation didnt come from them however, it was an invitation on behalf of the emperor himself, as the patient was his daughter. Upon Dr. Zaki AlDeens arrival he was asked if there was anything he desired to which he replied, A modern hospital for Sudan. 9 years later, the Hospital of Ibn Sina was officially opened. A hospital that was filled with modern equipment and ready to serve its people. The expert surgeon Dr. Zaki AlDeen passed away last night to the mercy of his Lord. To Allah we belong and to Him we return. We ask Allah to forgive him and us, and to make it a continuous charity after him, to protect his family and to grant his spouse patience after him.
