In Tasmania, the number of work-related fatalities for 2013 was seven. WorkSafe Tasmania’s Compliance Director, Neale Buchanan, described this as a terrible outcome. Neale said that in each case, the accident was not a ‘freak accident’ and could have been prevented. He also said that in most of the cases, there was reliance on lower order controls that did not prove effective in managing the risk.
