In Today’s Industry News… Australian thriller FELONY has wowed audiences at its world premiere at Toronto. The film has been praised for the performances of its cast, Joel Edgerton’s smart screenplay and for Matt Saville’s direction. Warner Bros. is in talks with Joel Edgerton to star in Gregory David Roberts’ sprawling epic, SHANTARAM. Johnny Depp, who is producing the film, is reportedly courting the Aussie actor for the lead role. Reviewers have lavishly praised Writer-director Aaron Wilson’s debut feature, Australian WWII drama CANOPY, after its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Weinstein Co. has bought the US rights to Jonathan Teplitzky’s THE RAILWAY MAN for around $US2 million. The Aussie-UK drama starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman opens in Australia on Boxing Day. And Actors’ Equity has invited Australian actors to answer a survey on what they would like to see in the new Performers’ Collective Agreement, which sets minimum terms and conditions for performers working in theatre.
