In a conversation about the situation in Ukraine, the lovely, - TopicsExpress

In a conversation about the situation in Ukraine, the lovely, bright, and talented Isaiah Fasoldt mentioned the idea that the United States should not be the worlds policeman. Ive often debated that point in my mind, and it is a question Ive been thinking a lot about lately, so let me put it to you, does the world NEED a policeman? A policeman is tasked to keep the peace, though not for the sake of peace per se, but so that people can live their lives according to their own will, not having the will of others imposed on them. When you think of the world - what is an appropriate goal or hope for the nations of the world? My answer would be that nations should have the right of self-determination, the right to freely decide their own interests and pursue them within the bounds of human rights and human dignity. So, if thats the vision for international relations, does the world NEED a policeman, or will that happen on its own, without someone enforcing it?
