In a different thread I posted a question about the funding of the pool at the high school as opposed to funding construction to replace trailers. Maybe my use of the word renovation was improper, so Ill ask again the question I had in mind...could the Excise Tax funds be allocated to build additions on schools in order to remove trailers and put students inside permanent classrooms? Is this not considered new construction as used in Candice Quinn Kelly response in the previous thread (posted below)? Isnt the Excise Tax designed to add new capacity to the school system......not necessarily just new schools? @Stephan - Excise Tax funds (used to construct schools) cannot be used for rennovation. Excise Tax funds may be used only for new construction and the pool is considered new construction which can result in a percentage of state reimbursement. Had the pool been postponed, we could not have used excise tax revenues nor would we receive reimbursement from the state.(Excise funds, however, are available and there ino school planned until FY17- the funds would simply sit there an could not be used for any other purpose). With regard to rennovations, the BoC approved the use of DRRA funds to pay for a study, consistent with a letter and guidance received from Dr. David Lever, Interagency Committee on School Construction. The study will identify and prioritize all renovations for the BoE. The Draft Report submitted by the School Allocation and APFO Committee appointed by the BoC includes recommendations on identifying revenue sources to fund rennovations. The School Allocatioin and APFO Committeee was established by the BoC in March, 2013 and included: 3 parents, 2 teachers, 2 BoE members, 2 developers, 2 BoC members, 2 SMAR reps.
