In a game that ended in controversy, the Carolina Panthers beat the New England Patriots 24-20 in the Monday night NFL game for Week 11. The Panthers got on the scoreboard first with a touchdown late in the first quarter. They would add a field goal late in the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead before Patriots field goal cut the lead to 10-3 at halftime. The Patriots opened the third quarter with a touchdown to tie the game 10-10 before the Panthers regained the lead, late in the quarter, with another touchdown. The Patriots would answer back, to open the fourth quarter, with a touchdown to tie the game at 17 and then take a 20-17 lead on another field goal. With about a minute left, the Panthers took a 24-20 lead on a touchdown, but New England had time to drive down the field to score again. On the final play, of the game, however, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski appeared to have been interfered with as he was attempting to make a catch in the end zone. Officials initially did call pass interference, but upon reviewing the play, they rescinded the penalty to preserve a 24-20 win for the Panthers. Cam Newton threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns in the win for Carolina while Steve Smith had four catches for 62 yards and Brandon LaFell had seven catches for 59 yards and a touchdown in the win. Tom Brady threw for 296 yards and a touchdown for the Patriots while Shane Vereen had eight catches for 65 yards; Danny Amendola had six catches for 45 yards; and Rob Gronkowski had five catches for 59 yards and a touchdown in the loss. The Panthers have now win five games in a row .
