In a landmark judgment on accountability of private companies, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by the Association of Telecom Companies and upheld the audit of telecom companies by the CAG. The SC held that the CAG has the power to audit private companies which are sharing profits generated from natural resources,like spectrum, with the government. This will have a direct impact on the writs demanding and challenging the audit of power distribution companies pending before the Delhi HC.
