In a letter to the Daily Telegraph today concerning the £1.7B - TopicsExpress

In a letter to the Daily Telegraph today concerning the £1.7B demand by the EU, Mr Van Orden, Conservative MEP, said, To keep the European federal project on course, it is vital to avoid popular referendums, and they know that only a Conservative government will give the British people an in/out vote on the EU. In that case, why did every Conservative MEP, along with every other UK party, except UKIP, vote against Lithuanias request for a referendum on joining the Euro, several months ago, in the European Parliament. If the Conservatives are the only party who will give the British people a referendum, what is the rationale for denying one to the Lithuanians? Regarding the £1.7B extra demanded by the EU, William Hague signed off the new rules for calculating members contributions at a Council of Ministers meeting in April 2013. Either he signed off on something he did not understand or the Treasury were extremely remiss in not flagging up the implications for Britain of the new rules. Which ever it was, the current Government are to blame for the situation we find ourselves in. But to expect any member of the present Government, or the last, to take responsibility for their actions, is akin to expecting bears to stop defecating in the woods.
