In a major move to Michigans higher education system, today the US Supreme Court upheld the states ban on using race as factor in college admissions. The justices said in a 6-to-2 ruling that voters had the right to ban public colleges and universities from taking race into account in admissions. The justices also said a lower federal court was wrong to call the change discriminatory. The State of Texas replaced its affirmative action plan with a percentage plan that guarantees the top 10% of high-school graduates a spot in any state university in Texas.
