In a recent Associated Press piece, reporter Jesse Washington explores why the United States has exploded into protest in the wake of teen Michael Browns murder on August 9th. Since Browns murder by the police, the Black community has stood up from coast to coast to say they arent taking the targeting of their community anymore. Face2Face Africa reports: In the last month or so, there has been at least three murders of Black unarmed men. Browns murder represented a tipping point for the Black community who generally feel that enough is enough. History Professor Blair L.M. Kelley explained, It feels like a turning point. I think because so many Black men die at the hands of the state. The Associated Press reports: The response to Browns death turned violent because of a convergence of factors, observers say, including the stark nature of the killing in broad daylight, an aggressive police response to protests, a mainly Black city being run by White officials - and the cumulative effect of killing after killing after killing of unarmed Black males. People are tired of it, said Kevin Powell, president of the BK Nation advocacy group, who organized peaceful protests after the Florida neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman was found innocent in Martins killing.
