In addition to my very own version of Nipplegate, this weekend was the Metro Nashville school choice lottery selection...but it wasnt because the system was borked. Doubly so in my case because the preschool and pre-K selections for the optional schools was also broken. It is apparently fixed now and my results for Bs placement are in! She is waitlisted at 109. *headdesk* That is essentially a total rejection as she will never move up 109 seats to get into that school. Even though we applied last year (and thought being waitlisted at 70 was bad, hoooo boy were we wrong!). Sigh. Our zoned school is...not great. And was on the block to be taken over by a for-profit charter but didnt end up being taken over this coming school year. The Catholic school where she is currently attending pre-school is pretty great. Awesome academics, small classes, really great teachers, loads of extra-curricular activities, etc. (I have some reservations about the super religiousness, kids are mandated to go to church either weekly or monthy as part of the curriculum, which is...a little weird to me since that wasnt my Catholic school upbringing and they openly acknowledge that a lot of non-Catholic kids go there for the academics and they heavily imply that the church thing is kind of a way to get them to be Catholic.) ANYWAY, preschool tuition was about $2600 (which is average for our area, even the YMCA cost that much but for fewer contact hours) and preK tuition is $6,550. Thats steep, really steep. BUT! I can make stuff. Blankets, plushes, cosplay, Ren Faire, SCA, whatever! If its made in fabric, I can do it. And if youre a Nashville local, I can also cook for you! I mean some amazing hummus and all manner of other tasty things, most of them sweet. If youre not local, cookies ship easily! And I have perfected my non-dairy sugar cookie. Have not tried GF, however. Were also thinking of holding a little fundraiser in the spirit of my friends who have done adoptions where you can bid on stuff. Ive got over $6k to try to budget into my life. Because options are slim. Thoughts out there?
