In all of my schooling, I have never had a group of professors try to dissuade me from taking their course, because they believe me incapable and are unwilling to think outside the box, as they say their students should do. I have never felt like Ive had to prove myself worthy of signing up for a course, or argue for my right to equality. Disgusted by the education department and disheartened that in 2014 it is necessary to do this ring-around-the-rosy so that I can take a course which will teach me how to tutor in schools and educate tomorrows youth, opening their minds and eyes. Im taking the course, but I know the battle is not over. However, I rise to meet the challenge and let this serve as my next big hurtle; this is not just about a passing grade or graduation, this is about stopping ignorance and refusing to conform to the stereotypes of two overly-opinionated educators whose attitudes are mired in the 1800s.
