In an on-going effort to provide our citizens with information that will assist them in avoiding becoming a victim of fraudulent activity, our Economic Crimes Unit has asked us to post the following information regarding the VictimVoice.org . Quotes in the paragraph below were taken from National White Collar Crime (NW3C) website. This website is a new resource for victims of internet and economic crimes. The National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) and the FBI have a partnership to investigate and disseminate these types of crimes. They use a resource called the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) to allow citizens to report internet crimes. “Victims of internet crimes can register complaints through the Internet Crime Complaint Center’s website at ic3.gov. This process notifies the appropriate authorities at local, state, and federal levels promptly, accurately, and securely, and provides analysts and law enforcement experts a foundation from which to launch an official investigation.” This new website (VictimVoice) expands on that resource by including educational information, prevention tips and contact information depending on the individual’s situation. It is a great all-encompassing resource for the public and should be used as a referral when our citizens report a crime that occurred over the internet. “For the general public, NW3C provides information and research so they can protect themselves against economic and cybercrime.”
