In an unprecedented move by the Vice Chancellor of Tribhuwan University, a letter arrived yesterday, addressing the Dean’s office that the Institute of Medicine at Maharajgunj is going to be converted to a Post-graduate Institute and that a committee had been form to see the work done. A follow-up letter arrived later today, attached herewith, with carefully chosen words, that state that another committee has been formed, leading to expansion of all undergraduate programs of Institute of Medicine in the TU premises at Kirtipur. There have been rumors in the past about the present VC of TU wanting to establish a medical college within the premises of TU, so as to boycott and see the downfall of IOM. These two letters make clear that he wants to strengthen on his foundation for that desire. The Undergraduate Programs at IOM, Maharajgunj are the flag-ship of the Institute, upon which the whole Institute is founded. There can be no doubt that this is a severe blow to the sentiments of hundreds of Undergraduate students and faculty members, and comes as the strongest and worst ever in the series of attacks made by the TU in the integrity of the Institute. Let us read between the lines in the latter attached, and correlate it with the fact that TU has been pressurizing a private hospital near its Kirtipur premises to become one its hospital for practice once the so called “expansion” of all UG programs occurs. It becomes clear that the hidden agenda is to shift undergraduate programs, reduce their quality to practice in a small private hospital from the glories of TUTH, and from there to lend affiliation to all the private medical colleges waiting in the pipeline. So it is another card played in the same grand game. This needs to be stopped, and be stopped now. This is an appeal to all IOMites and Non-Iomites as well as aspirants for IOM. Join hands and sign a petition for Undergraduate Programs at IOM, Maharajgunj, not at TU, Kirtipur!! Spread the word and collect as many petitions as you can by adding members to this page!!
