In ancient Israel , Satan exalted the law and crucified the Lamb while in spiritual Israel he exalts the Lamb and crucifies the law. The gospel rests on twin pillars of law and grace. The devil knows this and wars aganist those who bring these twin pillars into a right relationship. James the brother of Jesus put it well when he said for the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. - James 2:26 Even so faith , if it hath not works , is dead being alone. Yea a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works and I will show thee my faith by my works. - James 2:17-18 For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer , he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: for he beholdeth himself and goeth his way and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty , and continueth therein , he being not a forgetful hearer , but a doer of the work , this man shall be blessed in his deed. - James 1:23-25 Pauls explanation in Romans 3:20-31 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. John the Revelator And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring , who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ ( Rev 12:17) Beloved the law is holy , just and good but it can not make you holy , it can not make you good in actual sense it points out how sinful you are thus we can only be justified by the means of Gods grace. We accept justification before God through faith in Christ and sanctifiction in the same way. We can not keep the law in our own strength it is only through Christ in us that obedience becomes possible. Sanctification is growth in Christ. Through abiding trust in God, our bent sinful nature can be overcome. Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we knw that He abides in us , by the Spirit whom He has given us. (1 John 3: 24) Law and grace two sides of a coin# which gives us Faith that indeed works
