In ancient cultures, including those named biblically, long robes were the customary attire. Of course this made certain tasks difficult, like farming, running and battle. Thus the practice of girding up the loins. Although there are various methods, it is simply the act of securing the long garment, getting it out of the way, so that the wearer was free to move uninhibited. Over time the term became a cry to make ready, to secure oneself. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; - 1 Peter 1:13 Peter directs us to gird up the loins of our minds; to set our thoughts; to be determined; to get our minds right. We are to prepare ourselves mentally for the trials we will go through as believers for the gospel, especially those called to ministry. If we stand strong, continuing to live righteously and trust that Yahwehs grace will be sufficient to deliver us from every affliction, we will face Yeshua with a good conscience; receiving the fullness of all the future blessings reserved for those that endure to the end. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christs sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 To those that are afflicted right now, be encouraged. The fiery trials will come. Gird up the loins of your mind. Trusting in the grace and strength of the Most High, we will receive the greater reward. ❤
