In anticipation of Taylor Swifts forthcoming album, which could potentially get out of hand if my prediction about a Gucci Mane appearance is true, Im hereby declaring this week POP WEEK on the internet. Over the course of this week Ill highlight some underground artists who have been keeping pop alive this whole time. Day one: Uffie Although her time in music was relatively short, shes earned her place on this list by making this much cultural appropriation seem cool. In recent years artists like Iggy Azalea have been grilled at length about doing pretty much the exact same thing as Uffie, yet Uffies inclusion in the canon of modern dance music remains uncontested. It could be that maybe internet social justice simply didnt exist back in 2011, but I think its probably more the fact that nothing will probably ever be as cool as a caucasian American girl delivering gangster rap lyrics in a british accent over beats made by artists from Ed Banger Records. This blend of hip-hop with hipster-era electro was a formula that was heavily replicated in the coming years, and continues to mesmerize people to this day. #popweek
