In biology and medicine, heterotopia refers to altered location of a structure, a tissue or a trait. One example is the pathological condition called Gray matter heterotopia when one has clumps of gray matter in some wrong part of his/her brain (as in Corpus callosum). The Philosopher M. Foucault gave the concept in context of human Geography that refers to intermingled multilayered spaces holding more (meanings) than we perceive in an instant!
