In case peoples blood pressure is not high enough yet here are a few figures to contemplate. Lets compare with Langdon Hills because from a rough eyeball of the map it appears to be about the same size as the proposed development. According to the 2011 census Langdon Hills had a population of 9064. With 6000 homes we could expect a population about twice that size, so population density would be twice as high, not allowing for employment areas and the generous green spaces. I dont think there will be many homes with gardens if they are serious about those numbers. It might be interesting to compare with the density of population in other garden cities/suburbs in order to show what nonsense they are spouting. Langdon Hills has a couple of large primary schools so the new development would need about four. Langdon Hills also has about 816 children of secondary school age, already enough to fill a small secondary school. With an additional population of 20,000 combined with Langdon Hills, West Horndon and West Laindon we are probably looking at two large secondary schools to cater for local needs. Of course if they find space for all these schools plus all the other amenities they will need then the density will be even higher. It makes you wonder whether they are really planning a garden city or a landscape of Gorbals-style high-rise flats. Probably the nicest place to live in this garden suburb will be the travellers camp.
