In case you missed it: Through a partnership between CDCR and the Center for Restorative Justice Works, hundreds of children and their caregivers travel for free each year to visit their incarcerated parents. Last weekend, California State Prison-Sacramento and Folsom State Prison hosted Get On The Bus events. These special visiting events include crafts, food and opportunities for families to catch up with one another. Folsom State Prison Warden (A) Lydia Romero said during the Mothers Day event at Folsom Womens Facility that keeping families connected is an important part of rehabilitation, and praised Get On The Bus for helping to bridge the gap between incarcerated parents and their children. “It continues the family unit, it strengthens the family unit, and that’s what the offender needs when they parole,” she said. “They need that support – we all do.” Read more: goo.gl/FtiWJ0.
