In case you missed our News 3 WISC-TV / Channel 3000 at 10: Former AOL CEO Steve Case In Madison To Award Startup Business $100,000 MADISON, Wisc.- Rolling his Rise of the Rest entrepreneur road tour into Madison Sun., former America Online CEO Steve Case says the Capitol Citys rising young, university led talent pool inspired his visit to eventually award one capitol city startup $100,000 to grow their business. And you start seeing the momentum with some large companies supporting some smaller companies. And more startups coming to Madison, Case says. It sort of hits a tipping point. The initiative aims to show just like in Silicon Valley and New York, Midwest communities have startup companies on the rise. Case says he will hand out six-figures to one of the nine Madison finalists presenting the most uniquely Madison idea inside the Majestic Theatre on Mon. Hopefully its an idea that really signals that Madisons arriving as a startup region, Case says. And really sends a message to the rest of the county, even the rest of the world. The companies Case will hear from are wide ranging: Stemina is a biomarker testing for birth defects and Autism. Snow Shoe Stamp helps customers create and use a stamp on their smartphone. Murfie takes cloud technology and lets users buy, sell, trade, and stream movies and music. Mobcraft is a crowdsourced created brewery. Wholetrees Structures brings engineered trees to expensive construction markets. Projectfoundry makes it easier for Kindergarteners through college students to organize projects. Codaworx uses its webpage to help bring artwork to blank spaces across the world. Fishidys a map based social network for anglers. And Beekeeper Data helps those non-technical employees quickly answers questions. Even though theres a lot of enthusiasm from me about whats happening from tech space, there are a lot of great startups that arent tech startups, Case says. And having a wide range of people pitching in Madison is terrific. National Entrepreneur Expert Julie Samuels says part of the reason she is excited to be traveling with Case includes offering networking advice. Its not just advice on how to grow a company and business. But its also advice how to make your company be a good corporate citizen, Samuels says. Hopefully over the next decade well track more media attention all over the county and world about whats happening in Madison, Case says. Also more investor attention. The winner will be announced about 6:00 p.m. Mon at the Majestic Theatre. Besides Cases $100,000 investment, the winner will also win a trip to the 2015 South by Southwest Startup Village conference in Austin, Texas. Case will also explore and hand out similar awards in Minneapolis, Des Moines, Kansas City and St. Louis as part of his tour.
