In celebration of May as historic preservation month, the La Plata County Historic Preservation Review Commission, with the consent of local property owners, presents the 1st Annual La Plata County Historic Driving Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday May 17, 2014. The public is invited to visit and learn of the rich history of six local historic sites concentrated in the Bayfield area. For more information contact the La Plata County Planning Department at 382-6263. Maps, directions, and guides will be available. Tour sites include: • 10 a.m. at the Pine River Heritage Museum at 11 W. Mill St. • 11 a.m. Columbine Ranger Station at 367 Pearl St. • 11:30 a.m. historic Bayfield schoolhouses at 660 S. East St. • 12 p.m. the former Robbins Hospital, 8800 CR 251 on the Buck Highway • 1 p.m. the Bayfield Cemetery, 405 County Road 501 • 1:30 p.m. the Gem Village Rock Club log building, 39668 Hwy 160. Attendees are also invited to do the Bayfield Downtown Walking Tour. Additionally, from 1- 6 p.m. they may visit the Spring Creek School House, listed on that La Plata County Register of Historic Sites, at the Fox Fire Farms open house, 5513 CR 321, Ignacio.
