In celebration of National Youth Month our American Corner at the Bessie Head Library, Pietermaritzburg invited Dr. Shawn Utsey, U.S. Fulbright Scholar from Virginia Commonwealth University, USA, to facilitate a discussion with local youth. The discussion focused on South Africas 20 years of freedom. To support the event and honour the youth of 1976 some of the library staff wore school uniforms. Over 60 young people participated in this informative, lively discussion on South Africas freedom, and the role of youth in its challenges and successes. Dr. Utsey is based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg campus for 2014 where he is lecturing and conducting research.
