In celebration of our new record, for the next couple of weeks - TopicsExpress

In celebration of our new record, for the next couple of weeks were gonna go into a little more detail about each song, one-by-one. A Facebook-ified version of VH1 Storytellers, if you will. So, what better place to start than the first track? The demo of Sound of a Broken Heart that Ben came into the studio with was drastically different than the version we ended up with -- jazzy, with lots of 7th chords, almost like it was begging for a horn section and soul throwback production. We puzzled over how to make sense of the song in relation to the rest of the song batch (which was considerably more modern) for a long time before Dan Romer, our producer had the seemingly insane idea of throwing a reggaeton beat over the intro. We all thought it was a silly idea at first, but slowly we ended up...loving it! From there, things only got stranger. We stripped the chords from the first verse, leaving only a sustained organ and a weird synth line that Ben happened to play on his first take. Explosion sounds in the chorus, a synth solo, an unusually prominent (for us) bass part in the second verse, and a mellotron breakdown were eventually added to the puzzle. And correct us if were wrong, but we believe this is the first track with a fade out in Jukebox the Ghost history? We intended for this one to be cranked LOUD. Really, really loud. Check out the pre-chorus on a good speaker system -- Oof! We hope you like it as much as we do. Buy the album here: smarturl.it/JTGST CD/Vinyl & Merch Bundles: yeproc/jtg
