In celebration of spring, The Raptor Trust, will be hosting an Open House in the Education Center on Sunday, March 30, from 11am-2pm. This is a great opportunity to visit the Ed Center, meet with some of the professional staff, ask questions about birds and wildlife in general, and view the wonderful collection of mounted specimens, bird nests, eggs, feathers and more. Staff Educator, Karyn Whitehurst, along with some knowledgeable volunteers, will be available to show you around and answer questions. Schedule of events for that day: Education Center will be open to the public from 11am - 2pm. Hawk Release! The Raptor Trust has been rehabilitating birds all winter, and some of them are getting ready to be released back into the wild to continue their lives in their natural habitat. Theres a healthy red-tailed hawk eager to get back out into the world. The Raptor Trust will be releasing this rehabilitated hawk into the open marshland behind the education center at 11:30 am, weather permitting. This is the pinnacle achievement for a wildlife rehabilitator and this is what The Raptor Trust exists for – to return as many of the patients back into the wild as possible. It’s an exhilarating and triumphant experience that the public does not often get the opportunity to participate in. One (or more) of the live education birds (an owl or falcon maybe!) will be joining Karyn in the Education Center from 12 noon – 1pm to greet visitors. Self-guided tours of The Raptor Trust. Feel free to walk The Raptor Trust grounds at your leisure to visit with the large collection of permanent residents: hawks, owls, falcons, eagles and vultures (and Jake and Ray the ravens, too). Interpretive signs make the self-guided tour fun, flexible and informative. (Please be respectful of the animals when visiting and keep your voices down, don’t run, and limit your groups to 6 or 7 people at a time). Gift Shop. After a long, cold winter, the gift shop has re-opened. Affordable, fun wildlife stuff of all kinds is available – field guides, children’s books, toys, The Raptor Trust shirts and hats, handcrafted goods by several local artists, wonderful one of a kind jewelry and more. Visit The Raptor Trust on Facebook or the website at theraptortrust.org.
