In celebrations of Eleanor Roosevelts birthday, Id like to share - TopicsExpress

In celebrations of Eleanor Roosevelts birthday, Id like to share my favorite story about her, and its one you havent heard before. One of the treasures of having volunteered for Hillarys 2008 run, was meeting the most incredible people, including one who introduced me to Val-Kill, Eleanors home. I went up first that year after we founded The New Agenda, and havent stopped since. To me, its one of the most inspirational places on earth. Regenerative of passion, courage, urgency and all the rest. The other neat part of Val-Kill are the tour guides. Each time Ive had a different one, and all have their own stories to share during the tour. This is my favorite: = One ranger told of a man who had come on one of his tours, years before. The man had a first-hand encounter with Eleanor to share. At the time, FDR had passed and Eleanor was in her final years. She travailed until the end, however, writing, traveling, advocating. He met Eleanor when he worked at the local airport. It was a winter, stormy night, and Eleanor was scheduled to travel to give a speech. Friends had dropped her at the airport, and she checked in - the young man remembered being awed not only by who she was, but by that she acted as if she was an ordinary citizen. The weather got worse, the flight got cancelled, but there sat Eleanor, writing. She told this young man she didnt want to trouble her friends, and have them drive in the snow, so she sat up writing, then slept on a chair until the plane took off the next morning. My #SHEro. Enjoy these quotes - she also and a great sense of humor which came with her characteristic of being self-depricating.
