In cleaning up at the cemetery today and checking out the condition of some of the family graves therein, I came across the grave of my great great grandmother Emma Broadfield. She must have been a formidable woman, deeply religious, and one not to be trifled with. Her husband William, a school teacher at Forth, died in 1886, however, due to his ill health, had been a resident at New Norfolk Hospital for the Insane (as it was named), for some considerable time before his death. Emma, as a single mother, continued to reside at Forth with her two children, Richard and Gertrude. Richard married Mary Wood (1898) & Gertrude married Thomas McCulloch. (1900) Tom died as a young man in 1905 as a result of an tree-falling accident leaving Gertrude a widow with 2 boys, Keith & Neil McCulloch. She remained a widow until her death in 1954.
