In college my senior i took a sociology course on Crowds & Civil Disorders. The year was 1972. The professor actually fought in the revolution in Algeria. The problem with crowds is people lose their individual identity which leads to civil disorder and mobs and distruction. People loot and attack innocent people because they can. When confronted by well armed citizens (as in the Koreans) or well armed authorities the mob tends to melt away.
