In country music the lead guitar player traditionally has played a Telecaster guitar. The Tele is a guitar with only two pickups that delivers a very twangy sound. It was introduced by Leo Fender in 1950. The first electric guitar to go into mass production. Many Rock players like Keith Richards and Bruce Springsteen also play a Telecaster. Some jazz players like Mike Spern play a Tele but in no other music is the Telecaster as popular as with country musicians. James Burton, Albert Lee, Vince Gill are all Tele players. Check out this video of Sturgil Simpson with his hot country picking bacd. The guitar player is playing some really hot licks.
