In every thing give thanks. I am truly thankful to God for all my many blessings. I especially thank him for each new day as it is the present I get each and every morning when I am awake. Why am I so thankful? I will share a recent experience with you and ask you to pray for my recovery, as well as learn from my experience. On June 3, I went to a meeting at work. When I got to the venue it was bright, so I could see to access the building. However, I left the meeting at 7:45 pm, when I got in the hallway and staircase it was dark. The steps were painted in grey, I missed one step, twisted my ankle, fell and rolled down 6 flights of concrete stairs and landed at the bottom of the stairs. Immedialely, I recognized that I sustained injury in the form of cut and bruises all over my body. I quickly got up brushed myself off and drove about 20miles home alone. I could not imagine the kind of damage that my body sustained from that fall until all of my body started paining. What I should have done after the fall! I should have sought medical attention immediately. I didnt see a doctor until the following day. When I got to my GP he didnt seem too concerned, so he gave me a prescription for anti inflammatory pain killer and topical treatment for the bruises. What happened next took me by surprise. Three days later, I started to feel excruciating pain all over my body, I could not identify one place from the next. I couldnt sleep so I paced the room for most of the night. I went to another doctor, explained what took place, still I was given only pain killer and antibiotic medication. Still the pain got worse. So I went back to the doctor and asked for X-ray to be done, which showed no broken bones. Still the pain continued well into one month after the fall. I was later sent for Physiotherapy as I was now diagnosed with torn muscle and Ligament. The muscle spasms wouldnt allow me a good nights rest. So, the Physiotherapist put a collar around my neck and recommended that I sleep in it and do not drive to give my neck and shoulder time to heal. Six treatment into therapy, still no major improvement. I will now have to get a MRI to determine exactly whats causing the pain. Until then the suffering and uncertainty continues, while the medical bill grows. Why have I taken the time to give you all this detail?Simply! To ask you, not to take anything that happen to you in any form of accident lightly. Treat every accident as an emergency or as a traumatic injury until you have proved otherwise. Go to the hospital or doctor immediately. Document and date all the details of the accident. Your doctor will need it for further treatment. Traumatic injury has been known to manifest as long as 2 years later. So be aware of changes in your physical movements and attend to them immediately. Do not give your doctor or anyone the right to treat your condition lightly. Insist on the kind of treatment you think you need. Most importantly, follow the advise of your medical professionals judiciously as well as seek, second opinion when in doubt. Ask questions,do your research and know your rights as a patient. Remember your recovery depends on your mindset, diet exercise and faith in God. So why am I thankful? In retrospect I could have died on the spot but I strongly feel that God has kept me, because I have not completed the job he wants me to do. I owe it all to him and truly believe there is a greater purpose for me to be still among the living.
