In exiting a restaurant a few minutes ago, an African American - TopicsExpress

In exiting a restaurant a few minutes ago, an African American couple, about 40 years of age, entered as I held the door. Clean up, smiling and welcoming and the guy was wearing an Auburn University baseball cap. As I stepped past him as he held the door for me, I said, "War Eagle." We smiled, shook hands and began a quick conversation. In the quick conversation I learned he was a Lietuenant Colonel in the Army just back from six tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is from Demopolis, Al which is very near where I played basketball my freshmen year in college in Livingston, AL. When I learned he was military, stepped back and saluted him to which he returned it crisply. We spoke a few more minutes about life and experiences and shared with him my military experiences in Armor Cavalry commands. We departed with another hand salute that lead to a hearty hug. As we embraced I thanked him for his service and he thanked me for mine; a warrior embrace. I stepped backed and rendered a departing salute holding it until he returned it and with tears in both our eyes, left each other with a smile and telling him I would pray for his future. It was a moment; a warrior moment and will never be forgetten! Thank a veteran today regardless of age or branch; listen to the stories!
