In fulfillment of the one of the conditions for registration as a political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has acquired a national secretariat in Abuja, party sources told PREMIUM TIMES. The secretariat is located at No. 6 Bissau Street, Zone 6, Wuse District of Abuja. It is a cream colour two-storey building formerly occupied by the Nigeria Telecommunication Limited, NITEL. The secretariat is also about three meters away from the national secretariat of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. APC is the merger of four political parties, namely ACN; Congress for Progressive Change, CPC; All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP; and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA to which the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, belongs. Section 84 (3) (b) of the Electoral Act requires merging parties to send to INEC “the proposed full name and acronym, constitution, manifesto, symbol or logo of the party together with the addresses of the national office of the party resulting from the merger….” Sources in the association said the building is owned by a member of one of the parties, who donated it as part of his contributions to its smooth take off. It could not be immediately confirmed when the association will move into the property whose address, the sources claimed, has already been filled in some of the documents that would be sent to INEC. However, when PREMIUM TIMES visited the property, there was still a notice for its rent posted at the gate. The notice was put up by a firm of estate managers and valuers, A.T. Abdulkadiri & Co of 15, Mogadishu Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja. When contacted on one of the three telephone numbers listed on the notice, a staff of the firm denied that the property had been rented; confirming what the security guard at the premises told PREMIUM TIMES earlier. It was gathered that before settling for the property, the APC members had contemplated acquiring a large building located in Jabi District of Abuja, owned by one of the chieftains of the ACN, who is a former minister. PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the association wanted to acquire the Jabi property located on Ebitu Ukiwe Street for about N500 million. It was not clear what informed the change of mind. At present, all the meetings of the association are held in the Maitama District home of a former foreign minister, Tom Ikimi, who is also a leader of the ACN.
