In good dressage, you are expected to be your own tutor and extremely watchful of your interactions with the horse. This is not just about your own safety but about being open and disciplined. The ways of a good horse person are simply habits which attend to the horses physical and emotional needs first and so it is that one must learn to see what is basically always there. Because these things are both simple and common the educated mind learns to listen, feel and suspend the story lines. This is a process of finding the horse and not telling the horse. Aggression has no place in this exchange. The horse always shows you a reflection of your own attitudes so if you do not like the horses behavior, change your behavior.
