In his Australia Day message, Tony Abbott said: Australia has been a place for people to realise their dreams - if not all of them, at least many of them. Australia didnt disappoint my parents when they left Britain and it hasnt disappointed my wife Margie since she travelled ‘across the ditch’ from New Zealand. My hope is that our country will always live up to the faith that its people place in it. Margie Abbott has every reason to feel like Australia has treated her well - she was granted practically every right and privilege of a citizen the moment she stepped off the plane in Australia. She has been treated with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, New Zealanders are increasingly being disappointed by Australia. It is not living up to the faith that they have put into it. This disappointment has nothing to do with Australias people or culture. It relates solely to a handful of policies introduced since 2001 that deny them opportunity and social and civic inclusion. It is in Tony Abbotts power to change these policies and restore fairness. If he truly hopes Australia will live up to the faith put in it, he must change these policies as soon as possible. We encourage you to contact his office to raise these issues. E-mail: [email protected] Phone: (02) 6277 7700 Postal address: PO Box 450, Manly NSW 2095 - Tim
