In his book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen R. Covey recommends the writing of a personal mission statement as a way to articulate your purpose. He suggests separate mission statements for each major life role (spouse, parent, child, plant manager, scholar, mentor, Christian, sibling, neighbor, etc.). He also suggests that families try collaborating on the creation of a joint mission statement to express their unique purpose and responsibilities toward each other. This is what organization behavior is all about. Finding a common culture that will allow each participant to grow and become who they really want to be. It is not . . . and never will be . . . about control. Micro-managing based on FEAR will eventually destroy your culture . . . not enhance it!
