“In his twenty-five years of taste making, Edward Wormley has pioneered in a broad field of design” wrote Leslie Pina about him in the preface to the book “Dunbar” the furniture company for whom he created three hundred and fifty-six designs for. In reaction to the modernist ideal that rendered American homes fairly sparsely furnished, Wormley managed to still give these rooms warmth through his design. He reworked old classics like the wing back chair but did so using new materials such as wood and caning to give it a modern spin. He also chose warm materials like marble, tiles organized into mosaic arrangements, exotic woods, and throwing in a bit of lucite and metal for imaginative decorative touches. There are several pieces for sale here at C20 Galerie and I here show you the chair in the store alongside its original from the 1950s book on Wormley’s work for Dunbar. You can see in these photographic examples the two armchairs here now compared to in 1950s. Note this armchair in C20 is a faithful reproduction of its original. There is the chest of drawers at C20 alongside its 1950s original version and other variations of this (all can be reproduced by C20). There is whole a row of various versions of small chairs (again all can be reproduced by C20) and the slipper chair here at the store.
