In honor of Belgium’s World Cup win today, we are spotlighting Ignace Schops, 2008 Goldman Prize winner from Belgium. “By making the first National Park in Belgium – one of the most densely populated regions in world – we started to think outside of the box. We successfully protected biodiversity and have shown that nature conservation can be an instrument for economic development, too.” Schops was awarded the Prize for his role in raising more than $90 million by bringing together private industry, regional governments, and local stakeholders to establish Belgium’s first and only national park, protecting one of the largest open green spaces in the country. bit.ly/1iSDyWy
